
Ortho TIDBIT:
A "band" is part of your braces. It is the metal sleeve that is cemented to the back teeth (usually the back molars) to provide an anchor point for the ends of the archwires. "Banding" is the process of fitting and attaching bands to the teeth.

Problems and Solutions
You may be able to solve many braces problems temporarily by yourself until you schedule
a repair appointment with our office. These problems need not cause delay in your treatment.
If you run into a serious problem that is causing pain, discomfort, or hinderance to eating that cannot wait until a
scheduled repair appointment... please call our office immediately at
843-293-3522. Even if it's after our office hours, the answering machine will direct you to
leave an emergency message which will page a staff member on-call.
| Loose Band or Bracket |
If band or bracket is stil attached to wire, leave in place. If uncomfortalbe, place wax
on it. If it comes out completely, wrap band or bracket in tissue. |
| Loose Wire |
Try to place wire back in place with tweezers. If that is not possible, clip wire
with fingernail clippers behind last tooth to wihch it is securely fastened. If any discomfort,
place wax on it. |
| Poking Wire |
Try to push sticking wire down with a spoon or pencil eraser. If not possible, place wax
on it. |
| Lost Elastic Tie |
Notify us at next appointment. |
| Soreness |
Use warm salt-water rinses and/or Tylenol, or Ibuprofen. |
| Loose Appliance |
If appliance is sticking or poking, place wax on it. |
| If you feel you are uable to handle a problem on your own, please call us as soon as
possible. |
