Ortho TIDBIT:
Many patients ask us if we can use a retainer or removable device to straighten their teeth. While a retainer can move teeth in some cases, their ability to perform most tooth movements is very limited. Removable devices were used long ago before braces were developed. Braces, or 'fixed appliances', have a tremendous advantage over removable appliances. Some of these include less cost, shorter treatment time, less bulk that could affect speech, less frequent office visits, better and more complete correction, and continuous force application. Most people don't realize that new tooth-colored ceramic braces are almost invisible! Please feel free to ask us about any orthodontic appliances. We'll be glad to help you make choices.
